1018 Lygon St, Carlton North

Established in 1988, Art Stems on Lygon has become known as a Melbourne destination for artful, contemporary floral designs. Our florists live and breathe creativity, and take inspiration not only from the beautiful fresh flowers in stock, but from their own pursuits in art, fashion, film, design and poetry - we take pride in our ability to interpret the diverse beauty in the world through our arrangements.

We specialise in show-stopping bouquets and vase arrangements, interesting and eccentric elements, and ensuring the best possible care of our flowers so that they reach the customer just as fresh and lush as when they were plucked from the earth.

At Art Stems, we are in an endless love affair with the wild beauty and endless creative scope of floral design, and relish the opportunity to share this passion with the Melbourne community.

The Florists

Leesa -

Leesa has been working as a florist since around 2018 - starting with some Valentines work at a big company, which, surprisingly, didn’t stop her from pursuing a floristry course. Since finishing her course she’s been working at a few flower shops and rapidly unlearning the traditional floristry she was taught and pushing the boundaries with her work every day, always looking at every flower with fresh eyes and managing to turn every one of her arrangements into something totally unique and beautiful. Aside from making beautiful bouquets, she also makes beautifully designed garments and delicious meals, but perhaps her greatest talent is cat-whispering, having encountered over 800 cats on her neighbourhood walks (yes, she’s keeping a tally).

Josie -

Josie is all things whimsical, working as a full time florist and part time fairy. She’s a lover of all things femme and beautiful, spending her time baking and decorating extravagant cakes, sewing, crafting cute and practical ceramic objects, making the most vibrant and colourful bouquets, and listening to a whole lot of Taylor Swift. She started working as a florist in 2018  after leaving a desk job and wandering her home suburb to see what other opportunities were around. Thankfully one of the places she dropped into to introduce herself was a flower shop that was seeking an apprentice for the upcoming Valentines Day boom, and she’s been living amongst the flowers ever since!

Petra -

Petra has a background working in the arts industry as an artist, a curator, a gallerist and a marketing all-rounder, but found herself living in the world of flowers completely by accident - starting by helping out the Art Stems team with deliveries during the Christmas rush, and simply falling too in love with flowers to leave. She spends her days partly in the car delivering bouquets to your loved ones, and partly in the shop learning more about flowers every day. Flowers have become one of her greatest loves, alongside the curation of eccentric plus size outfits and writing pretty poetry about anything that has gotten her emotional lately.

Bobby -

Bobby is the owner of Art Stems - maker of incredibly designed arrangements, taker of stunning photos, and payer of the bills. Bobby started studying floristry in 2018 after studying fine art, working in film and photography for many years, and making beautiful jewellery for her brand Little Fear as a side hustle. Everything she does, she does with the most incredible eye for detail and design, and everything she touches becomes beautiful - which is why you’ve probably noticed our Instagram feed looks so damn gorgeous

Upper Management

Shadow -

Shadow is our Chief Sniffing Officer, Pat Collector and occasional model. He features heavily on our Instagram story thanks to his incredibly aesthetically pleasing fur and beautiful big eyes, and enjoys spending his spare time knocking things over with his tail, and attempting to drink water from vases instead of his bowl. He’s well known by anyone who comes into the shop towards the end of the day, due to his relentless begging for his evening meal.

Fevvers -

Fevvie is our Head of Security, Staff Happiness Manager, and Employee of the Month for July 2024, August 2024 and September 2024. Boasting the silkiest fur that Melbourne has ever seen, Fevvie enjoys shaking her tail with excitement and doing incredibly tiny meows to signal that she would like to be held like a baby. Whenever she has some free time on her hands, she also takes great pleasure in staring at fellow Art Stems employees judgementally from the top of the stairs, watching them desperately beg for her attention.
